Always a great visit! I LOVE this park and it’s sister on the Virginia side. So much natural beauty right here. Get an annual park pass and go regularly. It’s the best way for that fix of greenery and rushing water and trails.
A brief drive from DC, this place is steeped in history. The falls are truly fantastic, and the stroll to reach them is pleasantly short. A must-visit for both its proximity to DC and the captivating history it offers.
Beautiful, well thought out gift shop and historical canal element. If you have kids leave plenty of time for the discovery room and activities that they have. They also have Junior Ranger books for them to fill out.
Had a great visit at the visitor center. Plenty to learn about the C&O history and surrounding area. Plus it was nice and cool on a day with over 105 degrees heat index!
Loved the surroundings and the trails. The visitor center was open and they were helpful to guide me to take the right path for the great falls trail.
This a nice place to visit and walk on the C&O Canal trail. The Maryland side of the Great Falls Park is small in comparison to the Virginia side, but does have the charm of being able to walk along the C&O Canal 💕
You can walk along the nature trail and past the many locks along the canal. You can also visit the Olmstead Island near the visitor center.
There is plenty of parking available at the visitor center.
Parking has gone up to $20 per vehicle tho! 😮
The museum is also a nice place to visit during the daytime hours. Definitely a good place to visit with family and friends and get some walking done on the towpath.
Great trail, very busy (we went on a holiday weekend so free entry) I love they have restrooms and a baby changing station I'm restroom as well for those of us who need to change a diaper! They also had drinking fountain in I remember correctly.
There was a dope truck and a small food vendor too.
This tavern is almost 200 years old! What a cool place to visit. I wish that the NPS kept the building as a living history museum and had the tavern looking as it would have in 1831. Currently, it is just a store/information center inside and classrooms around back. The falls are beautiful and just a short walk from the Tavern.
